Quezon City condo unit burglarized; P11M jewelry, cash taken
Round-the-clock security did not prevent robbers from breaking into a condominium unit in Quezon City sometime between Saturday afternoon and midnight Sunday.
In a police report, Police Officer 3 Jogene Hernandez of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said the burglars took P11 million worth of jewelry and P350,000 in cash, as well as important documents.
The victim was identified as Robert Gruta, a resident of Celebrity Place in Capitol Heights, Barangay (village) Old Balara.
Gruta told the police that he and his family left their condominium unit around 5 p.m. on Saturday to attend a party in Bulacan province.
He added that when they came home around midnight Sunday, they found out
that someone had broken into their unit by destroying the lock on the door.
Inside the master’s bedroom, everything was in disarray, Gruta said.
To his dismay, he found out that the robbers had forced open his vault using sharpened steel rods, which they left behind.
Hernandez said that investigators had yet to rule out the possibility of an inside job because the thieves were obviously familiar with the layout of the unit.
The condominium’s security guards told the police that they did not notice anyone suspicious entering the building before the burglary.
