Former Philippine National Police chief Director Gen. Avelino Razon Jr. was released from the PNP Custodial Center in Crame after being allowed to post bail at the Sandiganbayan.

The ex-PNP chief, who is facing malversation and graft charges in connection with the alleged ghost repairs of police vehicles worth P 385.5 million, was freed Wednesday night.

Also released on bail were former Deputy Director Gen. Geary Barias, former Director Eliseo de la Paz, four non-uniformed personnel and supplier contractor Tyrone Ong, according to PNP spokesperson Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor.

In a resolution dated March 9, the Sandiganbayan’s Fourth Division allowed Razon and 13 others to post bail after the court earlier granted the motion for reconsideration filed by Barias, their coaccused.

The former police officials have spent over two years in detention at the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame.
