DAVAO CITY – The camp of presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court on the activation of the vote verification feature of the counting machines.
The verification feature will allow the machines to issue vote receipts for those who will cast their votes on the upcoming May elections.
Peter Lavina, spokesperson of Duterte, said the Supreme Court ruling on the issuance of the printed voter receipts “upholds the law on automated elections.”
“This would allay fears of the people that their votes will not be counted properly,” said Lavina.
If implemented properly, the vote verification feature of the counting machine would “strengthen the credibility of the electoral process,” Lavina said.
“We shall continue to call on the Comelec (Commission on Elections) to make the elections peaceful and orderly,” he said.
“We urge the Commission on Election to capture the spirit behind the SC ruling and uphold and protect the sanctity of the vote of the people,” Lavina said. SFM
