Vice President Jejomar Binay on Tuesday vowed to expand women’s rights by amending the law to include violence against women on social media.

In his speech during the Quezon Provincial Women’s Month Celebration at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City, Binay said he would push for amendments to the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004 to penalize incidents of violence against women in social media and the Internet.

“Papalawakin natin ang sakop ng RA 9262 o ng Anti-Violence Against Women And Children Act of 2004 upang makatugon sa nagbabagong kondisyon ng lipunan, lalo na ang pag-igting ng social media at information and communications technology,” Binay said.

Binay also promised an administration that would fight for gender equality, protection against violence, maternal health, livelihood for women, among others.

Binay also noted the role of women in contributing to the economy, 90 percent of which are composed of small- and medium-scale businesses.

Binay said.
