DESPITE her scarce presence on the campaign trail, presidential candidate Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago had never canceled a scheduled appearance—until today (Monday).

Santiago announced on Friday the postponement of her visit today to Eastern Visayas State University in Tacloban City, where she was to address the students in the afternoon.

She was scheduled to fly back to Manila the same day.

“Due to logistical concerns, presidential candidate Miriam Defensor-Santiago is postponing her trip to Tacloban City originally scheduled for March 7 until further notice,” said a statement from her camp.

No campaign appearance has been confirmed by her camp this week.

Santiago, who said she is in remission from advanced lung cancer, has made only six public appearance since the campaign officially began on Feb. 9.

Before February, she only made a handful of public appearances after she filed her candidacy in October.

She has said she will “never surrender” even after the latest Pulse Asia survey showed her in the tail-end of the five-way presidential race.

Santiago has mainly kept her appearances to campuses, having so far visited five universities since the start of the official campaign.
