Agusan del Norte town mayors pledge to support Duterte
BUTUAN CITY—The 11 municipal town mayors of Agusan del Norte have pledged to support presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte.
Although the mayors were affiliated with different national political parties, they said they would be supporting the Davao City mayor in the May elections.
The mayors met with Duterte after he spoke at a Rotarian District Conference at Almont Inland Resort here on Saturday.
Mayor Enrico Corvera, president of the local chief executives’ group—the Kusog Agusanon mayors—said Duterte was the only candidate who would understand the woes of local governments, being a chief executive himself for 22 years.
Corvera, the mayor of Nasipit town, said Duterte could also relate to the municipal government leaders.
“It is an honor for us to support a Mindanaoan running for president. We also believe this country will be peaceful under Duterte,” said Corvera in an interview.
Kusog Agusanon is a local aggrupation of local government officials of Agusan del Norte province.
Duterte, later Saturday afternoon, attended a campaign rally in Montilla Boulevard here.
