2 FIRES IN CEBU CITY

AT LEAST P150,000 in property was destroyed in two fire incidents in Cebu City.

Firefighters first rushed to the Cebu Eastern College in Leon Kilat Extension after the school’s Audio Visual Room caught fire at 8:30 p.m. last Friday night.

SFO2 Roger Valencia said electrical misuse may have caused the fire.

Damage was pegged at P75,000.

A second fire broke out in barangay Kalunasan at 1:30 a.m. yesterday.

Investigators said the fire started at the basement of Alfonso Roldan’s house.

The fire then spread to another house owned by Junnie Saberon.

MAN NABBED FOR USING FAKE BILLS

A 39-YEAR-OLD MAN was arrested for using counterfeit P1,000 bill in buying fish at a public market in Mandaue City.

Allan Breviescas, 39, was detained at the Centro police station while waiting for charges to be filed against him.

Police said Breviescas of barangay Bario Luz, Cebu City, bought one kilo of fish from vendor Nicanor Seno, 67.

Seno called the police after he noticed that the bill given by the customer  was fake.

Breviescas was arrested while walking on Zamora Street.

FAKE LP OFFICIAL ARRESTED

POLICE arrested a man who pretended to be an official of the Liberal Party (LP) in extracting money from an SK chairman in Compostela town, northern Cebu.

Police said Dennis Batiancilla Illustrisimo, 24, will be charged with violation of Article 178 of the Revised Penal Code, which penalizes the use of fictitious names.

Police said he introduced himself as James Dadola when he went to the house of Poblacion SK chairperson Daisyrel Lopez last Wednesday.

The man said he was the liaison officer of LP.

Lopez said she was told by the man that the LP would be giving projects to the barangay.

The next day, the man asked P500 from Lopez to add to his budget in going back to LP’s national office in Manila.

Lopez became suspicious and reported the man’s presence to Poblacion barangay captain Marilyn Yuson.

The man was brought to the police station where he admitted that he used a fictitious name.

Recovered from the man were two identification cards bearing similar pictures but with different names./CORRESPONDENT CARMEL LOISE MATUS
