The Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) reclaimed the title it was forced to concede last year without a fight after outsmarting Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC), 3-1, in yesterday’s secondary football championship of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. at the Aboitiz Sportsfield in Subangdaku, Mandaue.
Last year’s chances of the Cebuana Lhuillier Pera Padala-sponsored DBTC were dashed when they were forced to sacrifice their semifinal match due to a conflict of schedule with the Cebu City Olympics.
DBTC’s sacrifice, however, was not in vain as the team went on to represent Cebu City in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) meet and the Central Visayas in the Palarong Pambansa.
There was no doubt that DBTC wanted to redeem itself in the Cesafi, a tournament which it dominated in 2009.
DBTC advanced to the finals with a clean slate and blanked all of its opponents except for the Magis Eagles, who were the only ones to have scored against the Greywolves this season.
The Greywolves scored back-to-back goals in the 65th and 66th minutes courtesy of Christian Keen Agot and Valentino Calvo.
The Magis Eagles found the back of the net at the 74th minute through Kyle Arrieta’s efforts.
The Greywolves scored just four minutes later via Yves Russel Caballero’s goal. The Magis Eagles had no answer until the final buzzer.
The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) placed third after outclassing University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R), 3-1.
Meanwhile, the fight for the collegiate title this afternoon is between USPF and the University of San Carlos (USC).
