Homicide complaint filed vs sailing team coach over teen’s drowning

MANILA — The Manila Police District formally filed a homicide complaint against a coach of Philippine Sailing Team for the death of their 14-year-old trainee, who drowned in Baseco during practice on Sunday.

Police Officer 3 Michael Marragun said the complaint of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide against Felipe Mosquera was filed at the office of prosecutor Alexander Ramos.

Mosquera has yet to post bail.

On Sunday, a new recruit, Clarence Jhon Sanchez drowned during practice. Statements as to how and why he drowned remain conflicting.

Mosquera declined to be interviewed.

The boy’s father, Nalbert, said he and his wife had no idea that Sanchez had been recruited to join the team.

A 12-year-old witness said Sanchez joined on February 27, a day before his death.  SFM
