Vice President Jejomar Binay on Monday took his campaign to Las Piñas City, a turf of the Nacionalista Party’s Villar political clan.
At the Balikatan covered court, Binay boasted of his experience in helping the indigents and senior citizens in Makati.
Furthermore, the vice president took pride of giving free education in Makati and making the financial district the wealthiest city in the country when he was its mayor.
It was under his mayoralty rule that Binay was accused of rigging infrastructure projects, the subject of a graft indictment before the Ombudsman in connection with the allegedly overpriced Makati City Hall Building II.
He said he also hailed from the poor after his mother died of breast cancer when he was young.
Binay said he remembered giving free land titles to Las Piñas indigents with the Mayor Vergel Nene Aguilar, the brother of former Las Piñas Representative and now Senator Cynthia Villar. Mayor Aguilar was not present in the said campaign sortie.
“Naalala ko po si Mayor Aguilar, kasama ko po siya sa pagbibigay ng titulo rito sa Las Piñas. Marami ako nabibigay na titulo na taun taon pulos pangako na napapako,” Binay said.
(I remember Mayor Aguilar. I was with him when I gave free land titles to Las Piñas indigents here. I have given a significant number of free land titles which has been a false promise every year.)
Binay took a swipe against his opponents, particularly Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas for his bumbling (“palpak”) performance as Cabinet secretary.
“Maipagmamalaki ko sa inyo, sino ba ang may malawak na karanasan sa pamamahala? Sino ang nagpakita ng kakayahan sa pamamahala at sino sa amin ang bukal sa puso ang pagmamalakasakit sa kapwa Filipino?” Binay said.
(I can boast about a thing, who among (the presidential candidates) has a wide experience in administration? Who showed the ability in administration and who among us has the sincere heart in caring for our fellow Filipinos?)
From the crowd, Binay was cheered the loudest by a group of elderly who just came from a Zumba session.
Dropping by for the campaign rally are lookalikes of boxing champion Manny Pacquiao and coach Freddie Roach.
Afterward, Binay held a motorcade around the narrow roads of CAA compound, one of the largest barangays (villages) here with the most numbers of voters.
During the campaign rally at Balikatan covered court, Barangay CAA compound chair Sony Aguilar said the village has a voting population of at least 55,000.
Afterward, Binay went to SM Southmall for lunch where he had a few pictures with mall-goers while wearing his statement shirt bearing his name. RAM
