True stories like these are told in a book launched last week by the Department of Education (DepEd), which shares the accounts of young survivors in order to teach others how to act when disasters strike.

“It is important for us to see this so when we make programs (for children). We see not the adult’s perspective but the child’s perspective, ” Education Secretary Armin Luistro said during the Feb. 26 program held at Pasig Elementary School.
Titled “What Happens in Disasters,” the book contains interviews with 120 people from Metro Manila, Bohol, Zambales, Samar and Legaspi City—site of the worst natural calamities in the country’s history.
A project sponsored by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica), the book is authored by Dinna Dayao and features illustrations by RJ Santillan III.
A digitized version of the book may soon be accessed through the DepEd website, Luistro said. Kristine Felisse Mangunay
