MANILA — Two roads in Metro Manila will be closed in time for the commemoration of the 30th Edsa People Power Anniversary.
The White Plains Ave. in Quezon City will be closed on Thursday, Feb. 25, from 12 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to the National Capital Region Police Office.
The northbound lanes of Edsa Santolan, or those going to Monumento, Caloocan, will also be closed on the same day during the same period.
“The eastbound and westbound lanes of Ortigas Avenue will remain open to motorists,” the NCRPO said.
NCRPO Director Joel Pagdilao urged motorists in the statement to take alternative routes to avoid any inconvenience.
He added the NCRPO would “sustain its anti-criminality campaign and other police operations.”
“There will be strict observation of human rights during the police security operations and close coordination of NCRPO with partner agencies for the EDSA anniversary celebration activities,” he said, noting that topics relating to security and public safety coverage, traffic management, and emergency preparedness and response during the Edsa activities had already been discussed.
The NCRPO’s partner agencies are the EDSA People Power Commission, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, Office of Civil Defense, the Joint Task Force-National Capital Regional, the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group, and the Presidential Security Group, among others.
According to Pagdilao, President Aquino, foreign diplomats, some heroes of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution, local government officials, and people “from all walks of life” will attend the People Power anniversary.
“The celebration will pay tribute to the heroes who have sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom and democracy,” he said. SFM
