Abu Sayyaf frees nephew of late MNLF commander
ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Abu Sayyaf Group freed a kidnapped nephew of a Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) commander on Saturday.
Brigadier General Alan Arrojado, commander of Joint Task Group Sulu, confirmed the release of Omar Carlo Masdal, a 20-year-old student of the Sulu State College.
Masdal was freed in the village of Latih in Patikul, Sulu.
Masdal was kidnapped by an Abu Sayyaf Group led by Abdel dela Cruz on February 14 in Barangay Buanza in the town of Indanan.
“They thought this Masdal belongs to a wealthy family and the release was made possible through the negotiations facilitated by unidentified MNLF commanders,” Arrojado said.
Masdal is a nephew of the late MNLF leader Habier Malik. SFM
