CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – Presidential bet Davao City Mayor Rodrigo vowed to push for federalism as an alternative to the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) if it fails to pass Congress.
“With the failure of BBL, there is a great, great hurt there (Mindanao),” Duterte said during the first presidential debate at Capitol University here.
The controversial mayor said federalism would empower local governments and would certainly pave the way for prosperity in Mindanao.
The feisty mayor also said that a federal form of government would also bring peace and order in Mindanao.
“Nothing short can bring peace in Mindanao,” he said.
The BBL failed to pass in the House of Representatives and Senate and the proposed law would be taken up in the next Congress under a new administration.
