KENINGAU, Malaysia — A 39-year-old Filipino man was so angered by his wife’s demand for money that he woke up his sleeping eight-year-old son and allegedly stabbed him in the back here, leading to his death.
The man then allegedly stabbed his 49-year-old wife early Friday at their house near a closed-down sawmill in Kampung Malampoi Nabawan at Km75 of Jalan Keningau–Nabawan here.
Keningau police chief Deputy Supt Douglas Nyeging Taong said the suspect’s son was found dead in the house, while his wife suffered a stab wound to her abdomen and was rushed to the Keningau hospital for treatment following the 2.25am incident.
He said police arrested the suspect and recovered two kitchen knives, believed to be the weapons used in the attack.
DSP Douglas said the suspect, who did not possess any documents, was the father of the child from his first wife while the victim was his second wife of six years. They did not have any children of their own.
Based on initial investigations, his wife had asked for money for household expenses, but he became agitated and immediately took out his anger on the sleeping child.
“He picked up the child and took a long knife from the kitchen and stabbed him in the back,” he said, adding that the boy suffered several other injuries.
DSP Douglas said that the wife apparently tried to stop him and was stabbed in the ensuing melee, but she managed to run out of the house to ask for help.
He said police believe that the suspect was a shabu addict.
The wife possessed a travel document with an expired visit pass while the boy did not have any documents.
