CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — Presidential aspirant Rodrigo Duterte said he was looking forward to seeing the four other candidates in Sunday afternoon’s debates here.

In a press release, Duterte’s camp said the Davao City mayor was still awake at 3 a.m. Sunday, hours before the presidential debates at the Capitol University here.

“I am very excited, but I am also very nervous,” Duterte admitted, adding that it was a very important day for him as a Mindanaoan and as someone who came from the province.

“A very important day for me and for all of us,” he said. “I am a probinsyano, I will be representing Mindanao and the provinces.”

He said he was nervous because the other candidates appeared to have prepared well for the Sunday debate.
“I am nervous because I know they are good,” he said.

But Duterte said he was not going to “let Mindanao, the provinces and the Philippines down.”
