PNP revokes drug suspect’s gun licenses

ILOILO CITY—A suspected drug lord who is facing charges for an alleged break-in attempt at a radio station here turned over 10 guns to the Philippine National Police which revoked his license to own and possess firearms.

Businessman Melvin Odicta, along with legal counsel Rey Padilla, turned over the firearms on Wednesday to Chief Insp. Rio Maymay of the Iloilo City Police Station 1, at Odicta’s residence in Barangay Malipayon in Iloilo City.

The firearms included an AK-47 rifle, Glock 9mm pistol, Daewoo 12-gauge shotgun, SIG Sauer .45-cal. pistol, Tavor 5.56mm rifle, Colt 5.56mm rifle, Smith & Wesson .44-cal. revolver, a .38-cal. revolver.

Two other guns, a Glock pistol and a Metrillo handgun, were not among those turned over.

The PNP Firearms and Explosives Office earlier revoked Odicta’s license.

Odicta had been convicted of selling marijuana in 1989 but was released from jail.

He is facing criminal cases after he was identified as the man leading the attempted break-in at the offices of radio station dyOK in the city.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency has identified Odicta as leader of one of two main drug groups operating in the city.
