The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has advised the public of a road closure near the intersection of Edsa and Taft Avenue starting Saturday for the unloading and assembly of two new light rail vehicles or train coaches for the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line-3 expansion project.

In an advisory, the DOTC said the innermost lane along Edsa southbound near the MRT Taft Avenue station will be closed starting from 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20 to 12 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 21.

The department said the closure was “to ensure the safety of motorists near the work site.”

Furthermore, the public and motorists were also advised to take alternative routes to and from their destination.

The DOTC earlier said it was on track to install 48 new coaches at the deteriorating MRT Line 3 by 2017, as tests were ongoing on train cars ordered from Chinese manufacturer Dalian Locomotove and Rolling Stock Co. It said commuters can expect one “new running train” by the end of the first quarter of 2016 with the completion of tests. YG/RAM
