Alleged drug dealer killed while 3 cops injured in Ilagan City shootout

CITY OF ILAGAN—A suspected drug dealer was killed in a shootout with police Thursday night, which left three policemen injured.

The subject of a police manhunt, Honey Hidalgo, 36, was killed in a house in Barangay (village) Bliss where he had holed up with weapons.

Police, serving an arrest warrant, tracked him down to the house and were fired upon, said Supt. Manuel Bringas, Ilagan city police chief.

Hidalgo also lobbed two grenades at the arresting police officers, injuring PO1 Eliseo Guillermo, PO1 Christian Buraga and Senior Insp. Calixto Labang.

Ilagan police cordoned the area, while Mayor Josemarie Diaz tried to negotiate his surrender.

However, reports say the suspect also threw a grenade at the mayor’s group, although it had not exploded.

Police stormed the house and shot Hidalgo.

Seized from the suspect were a hand grenade, a 12-gauge shotgun, a hand gun, 4 sachets of suspected metamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu,” drug paraphernalia and P6,000 in cash.

Guillermo sustained the worst injuries and is being treated at a Santiago City hospital. Buraga and Labang are also being treated for injuries, however, doctors said they were in good condition. RAM
