SM issues statement on alleged suicide at Megamall

 

A high-ranking official of SM Supermalls issued a statement on Monday regarding an incident where a woman reportedly fell to her death in one of its buildings on Valentine’s Day—the photos of which became viral on social media.

SM Supermalls Senior Vice President Steven Tan said the woman fell in Building B of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

He said mall personnel rushed the woman to the hospital after the incident.

In the statement, Tan said the mall management was investigating the incident and would be cooperating with the police.

Some reports claimed that incident was a “suicide” while other said it was an “accident.”

Following is Tan’s statement:

“A woman fell at Building B in SM Megamall. She was immediately rushed to the hospital by the mall personnel. The mall security and the local authorities are currently investigating the matter. We will cooperate for further inquiry.”

The photos of the woman sprawled on the floor went viral on social media, where most netizens expressed shock on the tragedy which occurred on Valentine’s Day.

The word “Megamall” became one of the trending topics on Twitter on Sunday night.

INQUIRER.net contacted the Mandaluyong City police for details on the incident but was told that the personnel authorized to speak on the incident were unavailable.

The police said an investigation was ongoing. AJH
