MMDA, DOLE inspect 4 QC bus terminals

MANILA, Philippines—To fin out the  working conditions of bus drivers, conductors and mechanics, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday  kicked off a round of inspection trips of four major bus terminals in Quezon City.

Representatives from the MMDA, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)  visited Rainbow Express Bus Company, Ma-Fel Transit, Safeway Bus Line Inc. and Original Transport Co. About 600 other  terminals are in line for   the month-long survey.

MMDA Chair Francis Tolentino and DOLE legal officer Benjo Benavidez led the interviews on bus management and surveyed the employees’ working hours, salaries and benefits.

Tolentino said the results of the inspection will serve as part of the  basis for the  issue  on whether drivers and conductors should get fixed monthly salaries or be paid by commission.
