No more floods, no more foul smell by May 2016.
This was the assurance given by Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson in a meeting Thursday morning with the Mandaluyong City officials, residents and business owners who had complained about an ongoing flood-control project in Maysilo Circle and adjacent streets.
The meeting, called by Mayor Benhur Abalos, sought to clarify the expected completion date of the 2013 project, which the mayor claimed has been delayed for a year and forced some shops in the area to close.
“We are thankful for this project because it will solve flooding in the city but we are just asking the contractor to stop fooling us and give us an accurate timetable,” Abalos said before some 200 stakeholders gathered at a City Hall auditorium. “We have asked for the schedule a long time ago.. .but they only gave it last week.”
After apologizing to the audience, Singson assured them that his agency would finish the P609-million project by May. “We will make sure that the main drainage on San Francisco Street will be finished, with the remaining portion at the end of the street to be completed by August.”
