Only migraine can stop the tough-talking Davao City mayor.
Presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday suffered migraine after arriving at his speaking engagement in Ortigas, Quezon City.
Duterte was expected to speak before the Society of Hypertension and Philippine Lipid and Atherosclerosis Society at Crowne Plaza Hotel but had to cancel it because he was not feeling well.
Arriving past 3 p.m. with his staff and security, Duterte, while walking toward the venue, seemed to be in pain and leaned on a wall. He later walked quickly back to his holding room.
His running mate Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano told reporters that Duterte had migraine and needed to take a rest.
“So, I took over muna sa pagsalita ni mayor kasi medyo masama ’yung migraine,” Cayetano said.
The mayor took a nap but his doctors later told him to take a complete rest.
Cayetano, however, said there was no need to worry about Duterte’s health.
The migraine, he said, could have been triggered by fatigue and lack of sleep.
“We will completely be open but now it’s really just migraine,” Cayetano said when asked if Duterte could endure the 90-day campaign period.
Duterte is scheduled to fly to Davao City on Thursday night ahead of his political sortie in Mindanao this weekend.
“So far, we are not canceling or postponing any activity,” Cayetano said, referring to his series of campaign rallies in Mindanao.
Prior to his speaking engagement, Duterte was present at his proclamation rally in Tondo. He visited Cagayan on the second day of the campaign period. IDL/AC/RC
