GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Out on bail, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV on Wednesday officially kicked off his campaign for the vice presidency, hitting presidential candidates, Vice President Jejomar Binay and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

Speaking before his supporters at the gymnasium in Barangay Bula here, Trillanes said he has been hoping and working for the defeat of Binay.

“Wala siyang ibang ginawa sa Makati kundi magnakaw. Maniwala ho kayo sa akin. Inimbestigahan na namin at hinalughug na namin yan (He did nothing in Makati other than to steal.  Believe me.  We [in the Senate] have investigated his transactions and have left no stone unturned),” Trillanes said.

Trillanes was charged with libel after acting Makati City Prosecutor Gilmarie Pacamara found probable cause on the allegation of dismissed Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay, who filed the complaint after the senator accused him of bribing two Court of Appeals Associate justices to stop the implementation of the first suspension order issued by the Office of the Ombudsman against him.

Last week, Trillanes posted bail for his temporary liberty following an arrest warrant issued by the Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 142.

“That formula might have worked in Davao, but it will not in the national scale. You can’t just kill anyone,” he said, referring to Duterte’s statements that he would have criminals killed.

On the Liberal Party administration candidate Mar Roxas, Trillanes saw the status quo.

“Kung ano meron ngayon, yon lang rin (Whatever here’s now, that’s what you’ll get from him),” he said.

But Trillanes endorsed Senator Grace Poe, asking his supporters to vote for his fellow senator.

“We are working on grassroots campaign styles..door-to-door and house-to-house,” he said.  SFM
