COTABATO CITY, Philippines—A dispute among four siblings over land inherited from their parents ended with one of them and a brother-in-law being shot dead and another brother critically wounded, police said Friday.
Senior Inspector Elias Colonia said that on Wednesday, the siblings Ephraim and Welchie sought a dialogue with their brothers Norman and Mario in Barangay Sarayan in Matalam, North Cotabato, over the partition of land their parents left them when they died.
“They believed they were disadvantaged,” Colonia said.
The dialogue turned violent when the siblings drew guns and started shooting at each other, he said.
Killed were Ephraim, 36, and Junnifer Lumaga, a brother-in-law. Welchie was injured and remains in critical condition at a local hospital, Colonia said.
Mario is now in police custody while Norman remains at large, Colonia added.
