KUALA LUMPUR — Fire and Rescue Department personnel were called in to retrieve part of a severed foot of a child who got stuck in an escalator at KL Sentral.

The incident occurred at around 4pm on Monday while the boy, 3, was on a family outing.

According to City Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Azizan Ismail, the boy’s foot got stuck in the escalator at the KTM Komuter platform.

“He was taken to the Hospital Kuala Lumpur before we were called in to retrieve part of his foot.

“We dispatched six personnel to the scene from the Pantai Firestation and managed to retrieve it about two hours later,” he said, adding that the foot was immediately handed over to hospital officials.
Sources confirm that the boy is in stable condition at the pediatric ward, but the diagnosis is that he is likely to have his leg amputated at the knee.
