Son arrested for ‘killing’ pa over old grudge in Navotas City

MANILA — A 47-year-old fish vendor was suspected of killing his own father after a heated argument on Sunday night inside their house at Barangay Bangkulasi in Navotas City.

Alfonso Roldan is currently detained at the Navotas City Police Station headquarters after his 72-year-old father Rogelio died while both were assaulting each other around 9 p.m. on Sunday.

An initial report of Police Officer 2 Allan Bangayan of the city’s investigation unit said the victim, Rogelio, picked a piece of wood and hit Alfonso on the head, but Alfonso was able to retaliate by grabbing the piece of wood and hitting his father with it on the head, causing the latter to fall down.

Alfonso’s younger brother, Rogelio, Jr. tried to pacify them, but both fell down and crashed onto their father’s body. Rogelio was rushed by his children to the Tondo Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival around 10:10 pm.

In an interview with Philippine Daily Inquirer at his detention cell, Alfonso — the eldest of seven children — said he held a grudge against his father for the latter’s lack of support and for allegedly making sexual advances on his wife.

He denied charges that he killed his father, saying the victim died of heart attack.

Roldan is facing possible parricide charges and will undergo inquest on Tuesday.

Investigators said the family was considering withdrawing their complaint against Alfonso.

Alfonso was previously jailed for alarm and scandal in Navotas last November, and was released a month after.

Investigators are still waiting for the results of the autopsy on Rogelio.  SFM
