Today, Feb. 8, is the 126th birth anniversary of poet, writer, statesman and leader Claro M. Recto. Known as the “Father of the Philippine Constitution,” he presided over the  convention which produced the 1935 Constitution. Recto was elected to the Senate in 1931, 1941, 1949 and 1955. He died in 1960 in Rome, Italy, while on a cultural mission as ambassador extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary to Europe and Latin America. After his death, Calle Azcarraga in Manila was renamed in his honor in 1961. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
