Garcia clan matriarch laid to rest in Mandaue City
CEBU CITY – The matriarch of the Garcia political clan was laid to rest at the Angelicum Garden of Angels in Mandaue City, Sunday afternoon.
Retired Regional Trial Court judge Esperanza “Inday” Fiel Garcia died due to kidney failure last Monday.
Several friends and supporters including Vice President Jejomar Binay and dismissed Makati City mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay Jr. attended “Inday’s” 1 p.m. funeral mass at the St. Therese Parish in Barangay Lahug in Cebu City. Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma and Bishop Emeritus Antonio Rañola officiated the mass, which was attended by about 1,000 who filled the church grounds.
Former Cebu governor and Cebu 2nd district Rep. Pablo ” Pabling” Garcia, Esperanza’s husband; 3rd district Rep. Gwen Garcia, her daughter; and her son, Byron Garcia, were among her direct family seen leading the funeral rites.
Inday’s remains were later brought to the Angelicum Garden in Mandaue City. Others who attended her burial were suspended Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, Tinago Barangay chairman Joel Garganera, Rep. Raul del Mar of Cebu City’s north district and Pinamungajan Mayor Glen Baricuatro. Most of the Mass attendees wore black shirts with the printed photo of Judge Esperanza on the front with the message “In loving memory of a great mother, Ma’am Inday Garcia” imprinted at the back. SFM
