In Bohol, lesbian affair turns deadly, leads to killing of 3

CEBU CITY—A woman went on a shooting rampage over a spat with her female lover, a policewoman, killing the policewoman’s mother and brother and wounding another of the officer’s brother before she was killed by policemen in the town of Calape, Bohol province.

Maricel Ramos, 39, was killed after she went berserk, killing the mother and brother of PO1 Rosalie Cuario, Maricel’s lover, and wounding another brother of Cuario.

Authorities are now in search of Cuario, whose last assignment was to be part of security teams for the Sinulog Festival and 51st International Eucharistic Congress.

According to stories pieced together by police, Maricel got mad when Cuario, 33, failed to return to the house that the lovers are renting in Calape town after a heated argument between the two.

Calape police investigator Angelo Namang said Maricel got desperate after she could no longer contact the policewoman.

Maricel also suspected Cuario of having another lover, said Namang.

Maricel’s search for Cuario led her to the house of the policewoman’s family in another village in Calape, Ulbujan.

No one in the house, however, would tell Maricel where Cuario was.

Maricel returned to the Cuarios’ house a day after, still looking for the policewoman.

She saw Cuario’s elder brother, Vicente, 51, and asked him where his sister was.

Namang said Vicente told Maricel that the family had no idea where Cuario is because the policewoman had stopped visiting them following a dispute in the family.

But Maricel refused to believe Vicente. She pulled out a gun and shot him, aiming for the hand but hitting Vicente in the chest.

Maricel shot another brother, Joel, 46, in the face. Joel’s wife and children ran out of the house during the shooting.

Rosita Cuario, mother of the Cuario siblings, ran to her room but Maricel chased her and shot her in the forehead.

When policemen arrived, Rosita and Joel were already dead. Joel’s body was lying in the living room while Rosita’s was inside her room.

Namang said police found Maricel outside the house that she and Cuario were renting, still holding the 9-mm pistol she used in the shooting.

Police told Maricel to surrender, but she instead pointed the gun to her head.

Namang said policemen tried to get near Maricel, but the woman shot them, forcing the policemen to open fire. Maricel took two bullets to the head.

Namang said police found messages in Maricel’s mobile phone and in a white paper that showed her resentment about Cuario’s alleged affair with another person.

In one message, Maricel was begging Cuario to return to her.

Another message delved on the 11-year relationship between the two women.
