Sped center in Dumaguete wins quiz bowl

SIX grade 6 pupils from the West City Exceptional Child Learning Center (Sped) in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, brought home top prizes during the 5th Math and Science Quiz Bowl held last Sept. 16 at the Philippine Science High-Central Visayas campus in Cebu City.

Three landed first place in the math quiz and the other three won third place in science quiz.

The math quiz bowl champions were Sea Umbac, Dunne Rae Ojastro, Jomari Ganhinhin and coach Bennie Vic Conception.

Third place winners in the science quiz were Hanna Diane Coritico, Ma Francis Nikole Elli and Dessie Lu Eltanal, with coach Lelibeth Duran.

The winners headed by principal Wenerita Miraflor paid a courtesy call on Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria on Sept. 23.

The mayor lauded the students for besting other private and public elementary schools in the city.

The city government has been supporting local education program of the Department of Education, such as “Project MTS” or Maximizing Totality of Skills launched in June this year.

The Project MTS aims to increase the academic performance of schoolchildren in the city through the integration of culture and the arts in the curriculum.
