Palace: Magna Carta benefits won’t be scrapped in proposed SSL
MALACAÑANG on Wednesday dismissed the fears of scientists and social and health workers that their Magna Carta benefits would be scrapped from the pending Salary Standardization Law.
Quoting Budget Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad, Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma said Magna Carta benefits will not be repealed in the proposed SSL 2015.
“There is no provision in the proposed law that would diminish or remove the existing Magna Carta benefits of our government personnel,” Coloma said in a statement.
“In fact, SSL 2015—as in the previous SSL 3—recognizes the Magna Carta benefits as among the authorized incentives in the total compensation framework,” he added.
Coloma said Malacañang would wait for the resolution of Congress, which is set to adjourn on Wednesday, regarding the proposed government salary hike.
“We wait the final decision of the Congress on the proposed SSL 4 that is still pending with the bicameral conference committee,” he said.
The SSL is stuck in a deadlock at the Congressional bicameral conference panel over the pension indexation of military and uniformed personnel retirees.
