SAN RAFAEL, Bulacan – A man, with a standing warrant of arrest for attempted theft, was killed in an 8 p.m. shootout with police men on Tuesday at an election checkpoint in Sampaloc village.

John Lawrence Garcia, who died during an attempt to flee the policemen, was facing a criminal complaint before a court in Pulilan town, said Senior Supt. Ferdinand Divina, Bulacan police director.

He said the police officers manning the checkpoint had noticed Garcia on board a tricycle that was parked a hundred meters away.

When they approached the vehicle, Garcia drove the tricycle across the road, jumped off and fired at the chasing policemen as he ran toward the fields. He died on the spot, police said.
