NPAs torch agri equipment in Bukidnon

Communist rebels torched farming equipment in banana plantations in Bukidnon, the military said on Tuesday.

The New People’s Army burned the equipment from two banana plantations on Monday and Tuesday, said Captain Joe Patrick Martinez, spokesperson of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division.

On Monday, a boom sprayer truck of Dole banana plantation was set on fire at around 4 a.m. in Sitio Gabunan, Brgy. Casisang in Malaybalay City.

Another sprayer truck at Sumifru was burned down by the rebels at around 1 a.m. around Alquino area in Brgy. Barobo in Valencia City on Tuesday.

Col. Jesse Alvarez, commander of the 403rd Brigade, ordered the 1st Special Forces Battalion to deploy their troops and pursue the suspects.

“Overall, the NPA attacks not only affect adversely the civilian business in the area, but significantly affects the civilian populace, particularly the poor who depends their livelihood on them,” Alvarez was quoted as saying.
