SAN MIGUEL, Bulacan—A man driving a stolen vehicle was killed in a shootout with policemen at a checkpoint here before noon on Monday.
The driver, who has not been identified as of press time, fired at policemen as he attempted to drive a sports utility vehicle through the checkpoint along Barangay (village) Camias. He was killed in the gunfight.
The police had installed checkpoints in response to reports that a Toyota Fortuner (NIM 778) had been stolen in Cabanatuan City, said Supt. Joel Estaris, San Miguel chief of police.
The police spotted the stolen vehicle motoring towards them and had tried to flag it down, Estaris said. However, the driver sped forward and had opened fire.
Estaris said the police recovered a caliber .38 revolver from the slain suspect. RAM
