CITY OF MALOLOS—A regional trial court here has turned down a motion for reconsideration for a ruling that denied bail for detained former general Jovito Palparan.
“There being no new and/or compelling grounds raised worth a reconsideration, the court reiterates its ruling emphasized in the order assailed,” according to lawyer Edre Olalia who quoted the decision last Jan. 22.

Olalia, secretary general of the National Union of People’s Lawyers (NUPL), represents the family of missing University of the Philippines students Karen Empeno and Sherlyn Cadapan.
Palparan and three other soldiers are standing trial before the court of Judge Alexander Tamayo for kidnapping and illegal detention in connection with the said students’ disappearance.
Palparan petitioned the court to release him on bail, arguing that evidence against him were not substantial, however, Tamayo dismissed it early this month.
