ILOILO CITY—The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved a 50-centavo provisional decrease in the minimum fare for public jeepneys in Western Visayas.

The new minimum fare effective Feb. 1 is P6.50 for regular passengers and P5 for students, elderly and persons with disabilities, according to the order issued on Jan. 28 by LTFRB Chair Winston Ginez and board members Ronaldo Corpuz and Antonio Inton Jr.

The order was issued based on the recommendation of Romulo Bernardes, LTFRB Western Visayas director.

Bernardes said there was no opposition to the reduction of fares in consultations conducted in Iloilo and Bacolod cities, according to the order.

The fare rates, however, will be adjusted accordingly if the price of diesel fuel increases. RC
