SENATE Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile said he would raise “eight points” against President Benigno Aquino III when the Senate reopens on Wednesday its investigation on the Mamasapano incident.
“I will prove eight points against the President. I will prove eight specifications against the President,” Enrile said in an interview over ABS-CBN News Channel on Tuesday.
Asked if he was referring to Aquino’s involvement in the incident that left 44 Special Action Force (SAF) men and several others dead, the senator said: ” Yes, his role in the whole Oplan exodus.”
“What he did and not what he did not do as a president of the Republic of the Philippines, not as commander in chief, not as top cop, not as a head of state, not as a chief of head of government or chief executive, as President of the Philippines. There is only one person in this country who is President of the Philippines,” said Enrile, who initiated the reopening of the investigation.
The senator pointed out that the President is the repository of the powers of the Republic.
“Do not segmentize the President because he is only one person,” he said.
Asked of the issues that he would raise had never been discussed yet at the Senate, Enrile said: “These things were not taken in the hearing. The materials were in front of them but they did not understand the whole thing.”
The senator refused to give further details, except saying that he has materials to establish the President’s role on the incident.
“You know, I’m not doing this for anything. I’m doing this for the country, for the people, the poor guys who perished, the guys who are lucky enough to survive,” he said.
“My God, we are saying truth will make us free, well then everybody must cooperate to unravel the truth, if they really believe that or they are just plain lip service. Let the hammer fall on anybody that is hit,” Enrile added. AC
