Pia Wurtzbach’s courtesy call not endorsement, says Peña

ACTING Makati City Mayor Romulo “Kid” Peña on Tuesday said that the visit of reigning Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach in Makati City Hall was not an endorsement.
Asked whether Wurtzbach would be endorsing him, Peña said the Filipina beauty queen just visited to thank the people of Makati.
“Well, hindi naman. Gusto niya sana magtagumpay ang kagustuhan ng taong bayan. ‘Yun lang. (Well, no. She just wants the will of the people to prevail. That’s it.),” Peña told INQUIRER.net in an interview.
Wurtzbach paid a courtesy call on Peña after she addressed the crowd in the city hall grounds.

The 26-year-old model thanked her supporters for their warm accommodation, especially during her parade which took place on the busy roads of Makati.
“It was very magical! If I can describe it in one word, that would be it. Mayroong double rainbow (There was even a double rainbow). The people were very happy. I feel elated seeing the country unite. I’m very happy,” Wurtzbach said.
The Filipina beauty queen was honored with a key of the city and a plaque of recognition which was presented by Peña and his city administrator.
Wurtzbach was also presented a “special gift” from the people of Makati: a dress made by Makati designer Nardy Bueza.
“Pia is overwhelmed with everything that happened to her. When she thinks of it, looking back, she thinks it was a big opportunity to represent the country,” Peña said.
Peña assumed the post of acting Makati mayor following the suspension of Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay Jr.
A member of the ruling Liberal Party, Peña is seeking the seat occupied by the Binays for decades.
