TODAY, Jan. 26, is the 99th birth anniversary of National Artist for Theater Daisy H. Avellana. Born in 1917, Avellana was a known actor, director, and writer. She co-founded the Barangay Theater Guild in 1939 with her husband, fellow National Artist Lamberto Avellana, and other artists. Avellana, who was named a National Artist in 1999, died on May 12, 2013. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
