Romualdez calls for labor-friendly policies by Congress

Senatorial bet Martin Romualdez is pushing for more labor-friendly policies in Congress to ensure more equitable distribution of wealth in the country.
In a statement, the Leyte representative said that “inclusive growth based on a compassionate economy” would be the underlying message of his campaign platform geared toward providing equal opportunities to workers regardless of age, sex or area of residence.
“When we say that the Philippines should be progressive, what we are really saying is that progress should be felt by every Filipino. We should not only create just any job, but jobs that will give our workers a decent quality of life and provide for the needs of their families,” Romualdez said.
Bill to protect OFWs
He said he would seek legislation to provide more protection and safely nets to Filipinos working overseas.
“I will push for equal employment opportunities and propose measures that would end discrimination in hiring and in the workplace. Workers should be hired based on their skills and qualifications,” Romualdez said.
This included instituting an apprenticeship or experience-based licenses and accreditation system for professionals. “Those working in law firms for a certain number of years, for instance, should be allowed to qualify to take the bar but they still need to pass the exam,” Romualdez said.
Among the measures he would push if elected in the Senate was to provide capital and incentives to small entrepreneurs and industries, more efficient transport systems, and better telecommunication services. Gil Cabacungan
