Santiago-Marcos tandem still a go

SENATOR Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said his partnership with presidential candidate Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago is working although they are not being seen together often lately.

“Our staff is communicating almost everyday now that the campaign period is approaching,” he told reporters at the Kapihan sa Senado Forum on Thursday.

Both camps have been discussing their campaign plans and have been finalizing the areas where they will campaign together.

“We can’t campaign together all the time. Sayang yung campaign coverage kung magkasama kami palagi. Kung pwede maghiwalay to cover as much ground as possible,” he said.

Marcos said he will kick off his campaign in Ilocos region, his hometown, and make his way back to Manila and other provinces.

He said he last saw Santiago in person before the New Year.

Santiago earlier said she is eligible to run for president, claiming she has already beaten stage four lung cancer. She is currently on medical leave from the Senate.

When asked about his running mate’s health concerns, Marcos said he believes that Santiago is fit to campaign.

“Whatever she says I take it at face value. If she says she’s fine, then we will proceed. I base it on her assessment of her health,” he said.
