Bomb hoax scares Clark Freeport

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—The Philippine Air Force (PAF) deployed its bomb disposal unit last Tuesday to the Clark Freeport Zone to respond to a bomb threat that turned out to be a hoax.

Ret. Maj. Gen. Ricardo Banayat, Clark Development Corporation vice president for security, said a text message at 6 p.m. sent to a consultant of business process outsourcing company, Sutherland Global Services, warned of an explosive device that would be set off at 9 p.m.

The company shutdown work and ordered its 2,500 workers to leave the building, however, the PAF bomb experts did not locate any explosives.
Banayat said initial investigations suggest that the hoax was perpetrated by a terminated employee.
“This was not the first time we experienced [a bomb threat]. Last year we had 2 cases from different companies,” Banayat said. RAM
