Unknown to many, Senator Grace Poe’s mother tripped while walking along Padre Faura on Tuesday to attend the Supreme Court’s oral arguments on the disqualification cases hurled at her, the senator herself said on Wednesday.

Poe revealed this when asked why her adoptive mother, Susan Roces, refused to entertain questions from the media after she arrived at the Supreme Court.

“My mom has always been ready to speak about that. Kahit sino magtanong ay bukas naman s’ya sa naging storya ng buhay namin,” the senator said when asked during a press conference in Cavite if her mother was ready to speak about the circumstances of her adoption.

(My mom has always been ready to speak about that. Right now, it’s already up to the Supreme Court. She has always been open to whoever asks about it.)

Poe’s being a founding was one of the subjects of the disqualification cases filed against her at the Commission on Elections, which canceled her certificate of candidacy because of her citizenship and residency. The senator appealed the case before the high tribunal.

(It saddens me that it seems like the love and concern of a mother like her are being questioned, when any parent would love her child regardless if he or she is a biological child or adopted.)

When told that Roces did not entertain questions from the media while at the SC, Poe said it was because her mother had a minor accident while on her way to the tribunal.

(I apologize. You know my mother is not that young any more. She also walked from Padre Faure. She tripped. She didn’t let people know that she was hurting but her foot was swollen.)

(I pity my mom because she was already going through something emotional, yet that happened to her. I pity her, and I don’t want to put her in that situation, but as I said, I felt better knowing that she was with me, and she was the one who expressed that she was there to give us support.) IDL
