Poe allies confident SC will side with her

SENATORIAL aspirants under the “Partido Galing at Puso” of Senators Grace Poe and Francis “Chiz” Escudero are confident that the Supreme Court (SC) will uphold the qualifications of Poe and clear her to participate in the presidential election in May.

Two senatorial hopefuls, Pasig City Rep. Roman Romulo and ACT-CIS Rep. Samuel Pagdilao, both believe that Poe has satisfied both the 10-year residency and citizenship requirements for the presidency.

“There is no doubt that Senator Poe is a natural-born Filipino and has complied with the 10-year residency requirement for presidential candidates. I’m confident the Supreme Court will uphold her qualifications and allow her to run and be elected for president in the upcoming elections.”

“Our Constitution is clear, our laws are clear and the long-established rulings of the Supreme Court are clear. On these bases, Senator Grace Poe is qualified to run for president,” Romulo said in statement.

The Pasig City lawmaker said that groups supporting the Poe-Escudero tandem have been anticipating that the high court would favor Poe.

In a separate statement, Pagdilao said that with the ruling of the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) declaring that Poe is a natural-born Filipino and enough evidence to prove that she has been living in the country since 2005, he is expecting a victory for Poe.

“We have high hopes that the case will be resolved soon so that Senator Poe can focus on her consultation with the people and explain to them her government agenda and platform,” he said.

The statements were issued a day before the high court starts the oral arguments on the various petitions seeking to disqualify Poe from running for the presidency.
