The Philippine National Police (PNP) has arrested close to 100 individuals for violating the election gun ban.
In a statement on Friday, Police Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor, PNP spokesman, said 95 individuals have been arrested in different parts of the country in the ongoing conduct of on-the-spot gun check operations.

Of the 95 arrested, 90 were civilians; one was a member of the PNP; two were security guards; and one was a Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) member.
Mayor said a total of 79 firearms and 331 deadly weapons were confiscated.

The gun ban is being implemented by the PNP and other law enforcement agencies starting on January 10, the start of the election period for the May 2016 polls. CDG
