LTFRB suspends taxi after driver hurt passenger with samurai sword

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued a 30-day preventive suspension order against the taxi of a driver who attacked his passenger with a samurai sword or “katana.”

In a report by Radyo Inquirer 990AM, LTFRB board member Ariel Inton said the agency will also coordinate with the Land Transportation Office to suspend the license of driver Manuel Publico, who was charged with attempted homicide at the Quezon City Police District.

The passenger who refused to be named said the incident took place at around 7:30 p.m. in Cubao, Quezon City Wednesday night.

The passenger, a seaman, said the driver followed him after alighting from the taxi with plate number PXT 864 and attacked him using the Japanese weapon.

But in Publico’s version of the incident, he said it was the passenger who brought the sword.

Inton said the hearing on the case will be held next Wednesday.
