DIGOS CITY—Sen. Grace Poe on Monday vowed to continue the government’s social reform program Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) if elected President.
Poe told reporters here that she would not scrap the 4Ps program contrary to the black propaganda being mounted by a political opponent against her via a television advertisement.
The senator was apparently referring to Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas’ political ad featuring 4Ps beneficiaries and how the program has changed their lives and improved their economic standing.
At the end of the TV ad, Roxas asks what could become of the program beneficiaries if the next government would not continue the “daang matuwid” (straight path) governance.
“You can be assured, contrary to the black propaganda, that we will continue with the 4Ps,” Poe said.
She said her “government with a heart” will make sure those in need would be provided for.
“We will not only continue it, we will strengthen it. We need to expand the coverage of the conditional cash transfer program but we will make sure the beneficiaries will get livelihood they can draw additional income from,” Poe said.
She said she will also make sure the children of poor families will not skip school because they have not taken their meals.
“If you remember when we were kids, the government had the ‘nutribun’ program. We will create a similar program to ensure that our children take their lunch,” Poe said. Allan Nawal and Eldie Aguirre, Inquirer Mindanao
