Comelec set to file comment on Poe’s SC plea to junk 2nd division DQ
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to file on Monday its comment on presidential aspirant Sen. Grace Poe’s pleadings to the Supreme Court to junk the decision of the Comelec Second Division disqualifying her from the presidential race.
In an interview with reporters, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said that all seven commissioners, including Comelec Chair Andres Bautista, affixed their signatures to the comment after giving their own opinion during the en banc meeting earlier on Monday.
He said the comment filed by Commissioner Rowena Guanzon last week was tackled only briefly since the full commission gave priority to craft the comment concerning the Second Division’s decision now being contested by Poe before the high court.
“It was a very cordial [meeting]. There was a lot of give and take about their opinions…That’s what we saw this morning. There was a lot of mutual respect about the varying opinions and eventually they came up with a document that they are all happy with,” said Jimenez.
