Philadelphia police: Suspect shot officer in name of Islam

PHILADELPHIA — Police say the suspect in the shooting of a Philadelphia police officer told investigators he shot the officer in the name of Islam and pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group.

They also say the man used a stolen police gun in the shooting late Thursday.

The officer has been identified as Officer Jessie Hartnett. He was shot three times in the arm as he sat in his police car. Police say the shooting was unprovoked.

The officer fired back and wounded the suspect.

Police say the suspect fired a total of 13 shots that hit the officer and his car. TVJ
